Shade is the difference between sitting outside and hiding in the rig. The part nobody warns you about is that every canopy on earth is a sail: the failure mode is not sun, it is a gust at 3pm turning $200 of aluminium into scrap two sites downwind. So this system is a canopy AND the things that hold it down, plus the screen room for when the bugs decide the shade belongs to them.

Questions worth answering before you buy
Stakes or weights?
Both, and weights are the non-negotiable half. Stakes hold beautifully in soft ground and do nothing on hardpack, gravel or asphalt, which is most of the sites you will actually park on. Weighted legs are what stops a gust folding the frame – and a bent canopy frame is not repairable in the field.
Do I need a canopy if the rig already has an awning?
They solve different problems. An awning shades the door side and has to be rolled up the moment wind picks up. A free-standing canopy goes where the shade actually is, stays up while you are out, and gives you somewhere to cook or sit that is not against the rig. The shade screen above is the cheap way to make an awning work harder before you buy a second structure.
Will a screen house replace the canopy?
No. Most screen rooms are built for bugs and light rain, not sun load or wind, and the mesh gives you very little UV protection. Use the canopy for shade and the screen room for eating – a lot of people run both, with the screen house set up beside the canopy rather than under it.
