How level does the fridge need to be?
If your RV has a gas-and-electric (absorption) fridge, it has an off-level limit. Norcold’s owner’s manual says the fridge is made to run within 3° off level side to side and 6° front to back, measured as you face the front of the fridge. Run it past that and the cooling solution stops circulating; over time it can settle and block the system. Check your own fridge’s manual for its limit. 12-volt compressor fridges are far more forgiving.
Easiest rule: keep the floor by the fridge within 3° in every direction.
The 10-minute setup, in order
- Step 1: read it. Set a bullseye bubble level on the floor near the fridge. It reads both directions at once, so you know which side is low before you move the rig.
- Step 2: raise the low side. Drive the low side up a curved leveling ramp in one pass. Stop when the bubble centers, then set the chock behind the ramp.
- Step 3: lock the tires. On a tandem axle, an X-Chock goes between the tires. It locks them together and stops the rocking.
- Step 4: jacks last. Lower the stabilizer jacks. They steady the rig; they don’t level it.
