Best Shore Power Defense System Gear for 2026 — Researched Picks & Buyer's Guide

Surge protection, smart EMS and solid connections between the pedestal and your panel.

One bad pedestal can cook every electronic in the rig. Defense costs less than one repair.

How we chose. Every pick earns its slot by solving one specific problem in this system, and by fitting the rest of the kit on this page. We’re a curation desk, not a lab — we rank by aggregated buyer data and system fit, updated monthly. Read our full method — including what we do not do.

Surge protector or EMS?

A surge protector absorbs voltage spikes, and many models add a row of lights that tells you if the pedestal is wired wrong before you plug the RV in.

An EMS (electrical management system) goes further: it watches the power the whole time you are plugged in and cuts it off when something goes wrong. Progressive Industries lists what its EMS-PT30X guards against: over and under voltage, open ground and neutral, reverse polarity, a miswired pedestal, an accidental 240 V, surge failure and AC frequency problems.

A Bluetooth monitor such as the Power Watchdog PWD30 shows live volts, amps and watts on your phone and alerts you when park power drifts outside the range you set.

Plug in in this order

  1. Protector into the pedestal first, with the breaker off.
  2. Check the lights or the app.
  3. Then plug in the RV and turn the breaker on.
  4. Leave the protector connected the whole stay.

On a budget, a basic surge protector with wiring-fault lights still beats plugging in bare. Step up to an EMS if you run air conditioning or stay in older parks.
