RV & Marine Memberships That Pay For Themselves

A travel trailer parked at golden hour on a working vineyard, string lights just starting to glow

A membership is the only piece of gear that pays you back every trip. One night of free camping or one avoided tow covers most of what these clubs cost for a year — and unlike a battery or an awning, you carry it in your phone.

Good Sam Club

DISCOUNTS · 2,000+ PARKS · ROADSIDE SOLD SEPARATELY

The best-known name in RVing, and essentially a discount card: a members rate at 2,000+ parks across the US and Canada, plus fuel and Camping World savings. Its roadside assistance and TravelAssist plans are sold separately.

  • Members rate at 2,000+ parks in the US and Canada
  • Fuel and Camping World savings stack on top
  • Roadside and TravelAssist available as add-ons
  • Strongest if you stay in commercial parks

PAYS FOR ITSELF WHEN → You stay in participating parks most weekends

Visit Good Sam →

Escapees RV Club

COMMUNITY · MAIL FORWARDING · FULL-TIMERS

The full-timer club. Park discounts are real but secondary — people join for mail forwarding, a domicile address, and a community that has already solved the problem you are about to have. Note that Harvest Hosts bundles Escapees into its All Access tier.

  • Mail forwarding and a legal domicile address
  • Full-time RVer community and education
  • Included with Harvest Hosts All Access
  • Discount network at member parks

PAYS FOR ITSELF WHEN → You live in the rig rather than vacation in it

Visit Escapees →

BoatUS

MARINE TOWING · ON-WATER ASSISTANCE · TRAILER COVER

The water equivalent of roadside assistance, and the one boaters wish they had bought the day before they needed it. Unlimited-tow tiers cover the soft grounding, the dead battery and the out-of-fuel drift that otherwise arrive as a four-figure invoice.

  • On-water towing, soft ungrounding and jump starts
  • Trailer assist options for the ramp and the road
  • Discounts on fuel, repairs and marina services
  • One tow typically costs more than years of dues

PAYS FOR ITSELF WHEN → The first time you need a tow off the water

Visit BoatUS →

Sea Tow

MARINE TOWING · 24/7 DISPATCH · CAPTAIN NETWORK

The other major on-water assistance network, run through local captains who know their own waters. Coverage and captain availability differ by region, so the honest advice is to check which network actually has boats where you launch.

  • 24/7 dispatch through local captain franchises
  • Towing, jump starts, fuel delivery and ungrounding
  • Coverage strength varies by region — check yours
  • Compare captain density against BoatUS locally

PAYS FOR ITSELF WHEN → You boat regularly in a region it covers well

Protection: the gap between your policy and the shoulder

Insurance pays for damage. Assistance pays to get you moving again. The expensive mistakes happen in the space between them — a tow capped at a mileage your rig cannot use, a grounding that turns out to be salvage rather than towing, or a club you are already paying for inside a policy you never read.

RV & Trailer

TOW LIMITS · RIG-RATED SERVICE · DOUBLE-PAID CLUBS

The tow that matters is the one to a shop that can physically take your rig. Check the mileage cap on your declarations page, and whether your policy already bundles a club or roadside tier before you buy another one.

Boat & Marine

TOWING VS SALVAGE · UNGROUNDING · TRAILER COVER

One ungrounding off a sandbar can run into four figures, and much of it is billed as salvage rather than towing — which many policies treat completely differently. Know which word your wording uses before you need it.

Before you buy: what your policy already does

The most common mistake on this page is buying cover you already own. Insurance and assistance are two different products, and people assume the first includes the second.

SituationInsuranceAssistance membership
Collision, hail, fire, theftYes — this is what a policy is forNo
You hurt someone or their propertyYes — liabilityNo
Dead battery, lockout, out of fuelSometimes, if roadside is on the policyYes
Tow to a shop that can take a 40-footerOften capped by distance, not by needYes on RV-rated plans
Blown tire on a dual-axle trailerUsually a call-out, not a fixYes on RV-rated plans
Soft grounding or dead boat on the waterOften salvage, not towing — read the wordingYes on marine plans

The three-minute check that saves the most money

DO THIS BEFORE YOU JOIN ANYTHING

  • Open your declarations page and look for roadside, towing or emergency service
  • If it is there, find the limit — a dollar cap, a mileage cap, or a number of call-outs per year. That number is the whole story
  • Check whether the limit is written for a car. A tow rated for a sedan does not move a fifth wheel, and you find that out on the shoulder
  • On the water, look for the difference between towing and salvage. They are priced and covered differently, and a grounding is often the second one
  • Some RV policies bundle a club or roadside tier. If yours does, you may already be paying for what is on this page — do not buy it twice

RULE OF THUMB → Insurance pays for damage. Assistance pays to get you moving.

We are not insurance agents and this is not advice about your policy — coverage differs by carrier, state and rig. The point of the checklist is to send you to your own declarations page before you spend anything.
